AutoTracker is an offline-first trip tracker. It records your car trips on your device and shows them on a map. Your trips and location data stay on your device. We (the developer) do not run any server, do not have an account system, and never receive, sell, or share your location or trip data. The app contains no ads and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
The only time location-derived data leaves your device is to load map tiles from the map provider you select, and only to draw the map you are looking at.
This policy applies to the AutoTracker Android application published on Google Play. It explains what data the app accesses, why, where it is stored, and your choices.
All data below is processed locally on your device. It is not transmitted to the developer.
| Data | Why it is used | Where it is stored | Shared? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Precise location (GPS/network), including latitude, longitude, altitude, accuracy, and device speed | To record a trip’s route, distance, speed, and altitude, and to show your position on the map | On-device database (Room/SQLite) | No |
| Location in the background | So a trip keeps recording while the app is in the background or the screen is off (see §3) | Same on-device database | No |
| Derived trip statistics (duration, average/max speed, distance, timestamps) | To display and store your trip history | On-device database | No |
| Vehicle data via OBD-II (optional) — vehicle speed, MAF / engine fuel rate read from an ELM327 Bluetooth adapter | To estimate live and average fuel consumption during a trip | On-device database | No |
| Diagnostic logs (optional, off by default) — app event logs that may include coordinates; crash logs | Troubleshooting on your own device | Local files in the app’s storage | No |
The app does not collect contacts, messages, photos, microphone, advertising identifiers, or personal identifiers. There is no sign-in and no user account.
AutoTracker requests “Allow all the time” (background) location so that a trip continues to be recorded when the app is not in the foreground — for example when the screen is off or you switch to another app. Before the system permission dialog appears, the app shows an in-app disclosure describing this use. Background location is used only for the trip-recording feature described in §2 and is never used for advertising or shared with third parties. You can decline background access and still use the app in the foreground, or change the permission later in Android Settings.
If you enable the OBD-II feature, the app uses Bluetooth (BLUETOOTH_CONNECT) to connect to an ELM327 adapter you pair, in order to read vehicle speed and fuel-related values. Bluetooth is used solely for this connection. This feature is off by default and only becomes active when you select an engine type and a paired adapter in Settings.
We do not send your data to any third party. However, to draw the map you are viewing, the app requests map tiles from the map engine you choose in Settings:
When a map is displayed, these tile providers necessarily receive network requests for the geographic area shown on screen (which reveals the approximate area you are viewing) and standard technical information such as your IP address, as with any online map. These providers process that data under their own privacy policies:
If you use only the OpenStreetMap engine and stay within cached/offline areas, map network requests are minimized. No trip data, route, or history is ever sent to these providers.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or location data with anyone. There is no advertising and no third-party analytics in the app.
Your trips and related data are stored on your device for as long as you keep them. You are in control:
.atbk backup files are created only when you choose to export, and are saved to the folder you select; delete those files to remove those copies.Because we never receive your data, there is no server-side copy for us to delete.
Data is stored in the app’s private, sandboxed storage on your device. Map tile requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. As with any app, data on the device is also protected by your device’s own lock screen and encryption.
AutoTracker is intended for a general audience of drivers and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Because all data stays on your device and under your control, you can access, correct, export, or delete it at any time using the in-app features described in §7. For any questions about this policy, contact us at the email above.
We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if a new feature changes what data is used). Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date, and the updated policy will be linked from the app’s Google Play listing.
